How to unlock every character

All 19 launch characters in DragonSword : Awakening can be unlocked through normal play. Eleven are recruited through the Exchange with Fate's Invitation, while eight join through story or progression routes. Fate's Invitation is used for a targeted choice, not a random character pull. Recruitment overview

Hound13 states that characters are obtained either directly through quests or by using recruitment materials earned from quests. The official FAQ also says there is no character gacha. That establishes the overall model, but it does not provide a public mission-by-mission unlock table. [S03] [S05]

The detailed 11 and 8 split comes from community guides that agree on the character groupings. Those references are useful for planning, but exact quest names still need separate verification. A community route is not labeled official simply because it matches the confirmed total of 19. [G02] [G04]

Fate's Invitation

Fate's Invitation is a recruitment item used in the Exchange. Current guides report that one Invitation recruits one eligible character, with the player selecting the character rather than receiving a random result. Recruiting all 11 Exchange characters therefore requires 11 Invitations. [G02] [G04]

Official material confirms the broader idea of quest-earned recruitment materials, but it does not clearly map every Fate's Invitation to a named quest. A community database associates the item with several quests while also showing that no listed source is available for those associations. Seeing a character in a cutscene or controlling one temporarily is not enough evidence that the character has permanently joined. Use the playable roster screen and the current quest state as the in-game confirmation. A universal chapter number for all eight characters has not been verified.

Using invitations

When an Invitation is available, review the Exchange list and choose the character you intend to recruit. The choice is targeted, but that does not mean every character has the same value for every party. Check the status chain, Signal follow-up, control, recovery, and range already covered by your current team before spending the item.
