DragonSword : Awakening launched with 19 playable characters. Every one of them can be obtained through normal game progression, so the roster is not split between free heroes and paid random pulls. This directory identifies the cast and explains how its information is organized. Character rankings and detailed builds remain separate topics. [S03] [S05]

Launch roster

The complete launch roster is Alex, Aria, Astria, Castella, Cerese, Charlotte, Dana, Eileen, Johnny, Kalien, Kalsion, Lute, Ornette, Othello, Reina, Roxy, Sion, Tarte, and Theresia. Hound13 confirms the total of 19, while GameRant and the launch-roster wiki provide matching individual names. No name in this alphabetical list represents a rank or recruitment priority. [S03] [G02] [G03]

The list is alphabetical because there is no official order that represents power, rarity, or recruitment priority. A character appearing near the beginning or end of this directory does not imply a stronger or weaker position. Community rankings use their own criteria and belong on the separate tier list, where their methods and version dates can be shown.

The roster reflects launch-build evidence checked on August 7, 2026. A later character should be added only after an official announcement or verification in the current client. Until then, this page describes the confirmed 19-character launch roster rather than speculating about future additions.

How it works

DragonSword combat is built around a three-character party, Status Ailments, Signal Skills, and character switching. A useful roster directory therefore needs more than a list of names. It should help a player find a status applier, a Signal follow-up, or a character who contributes control or recovery to a team. [S01]

Those labels describe jobs within a combat sequence, not permanent classes. The same hero can matter for different reasons depending on equipment, Karma, Runes, the enemy, and the other two party members. A filter such as control, recovery, melee, or ranged is best treated as a discovery aid, not a verdict on performance.

Some community references assign named Trait and Status labels to every hero. These labels are useful for research, but the full table has not been independently verified against the English client. Character-level status tags that rely on one community source should be displayed as source-reported rather than official. [G02]

Recruitment

All 19 launch characters are available through play. Hound13 describes two broad routes: characters who join directly through quests or story progression, and characters recruited with materials earned from quests. Neither route is a paid random character draw. [S03] [S05]

Community research divides the roster into eight story or progression characters and 11 Exchange characters. The Exchange group uses Fate's Invitation, a targeted recruitment item that lets the player choose a listed hero. The detailed groupings and current evidence are covered in the character unlock guide rather than repeated as an unexplained checklist here. [G02] [G04]

Meeting a character during the story should not automatically be read as proof that the character has permanently joined the playable roster. The exact trigger depends on that character's route. When a quest name or permanent-unlock condition lacks reliable confirmation, its status remains To be confirmed.

Status roles

The official combat description makes the order of actions important. One character applies a relevant condition, a Signal opportunity becomes available, and the player switches to continue the chain. Three individually popular heroes can still form an awkward party if their conditions and follow-ups do not connect. [S01]

For that reason, use status and role filters to identify who can start a chain and who can respond to its Signal. Then check whether the party still has control or recovery after those two positions are filled. Range also matters because close-range and ranged setups expose the player to different encounter pressures. These filters narrow a roster search without assigning a power rank.

Community references report families such as Burn, Frost, Bleed, Poison, Shock, Airborne, Stun, Knockdown, and Recovery. Localized wording is not fully consistent across guides. Terms such as Down and Knockdown, Chill and Frost, or Fire and Burn may refer to related client labels, but they should not be silently merged without checking the current English build. [G02] [G03]

Name notes

This site uses Kalsion, Kalien, Sion, Othello, and Cerese, matching the reviewed English roster references. Variants such as Calcion, Kerian, Zion, Othell, and Seris appear on some third-party pages. They are treated as alternate or erroneous spellings rather than evidence of additional roster members. [G02] [G03]

Astria is included because she appears in the complete 19-hero roster. Her precise Status labels do not yet have enough independent evidence for publication. Those labels remain To be confirmed until the current English client or another reliable source resolves them.
